Experiential Learning Cycle

SBAE is far more than an agricultural curriculum or a school garden project; it’s a transformative approach to teaching and learning agriculture through hands-on experience. Recognizing that the best learning happens by doing, SBAE builds teachers' capacity to engage students through experiential learning.

Experiential learning embraces how humans learn, develop and grow. It is not a mere set of activities, games or demonstrations. It is “the transformation of experience” into knowledge – and a lifelong process of adapting to one’s environment. SBAE initiates this lifelong process within a natural, community-based learning environment.

By shifting away from traditional lectures, in-service training workshops prepare teachers in a student-centered pedagogy. With ongoing support from field officers and peer groups, teachers integrate a comprehensive model that includes school demonstration farms, home projects, and leadership activities. This holistic approach ensures that teachers are equipped to inspire and empower students, fostering problem-solving skills and agricultural expertise across communities.
